lab test

In addition to the standard tests, which are routinely done by medical doctors, specialized labs are ordered by naturopathic doctors to find out the root cause of symptoms. Here are some examples of the lab tests offered:

Food sensitivity test:  IgG Blood Test – IgG food sensitivities have been implicated in many chronic inflammatory conditions such as thyroid conditions, psoriasis, eczema, arthritis and other autoimmune conditions. Food sensitivities have been found to be the underlying cause of vague symptoms as fatigue, gas, bloating, unexplained weight gain, hormonal imbalances and migraine. There is a growing body of evidence that eliminating IgG reactive foods from diet has clinical benefits. Test results not only indicate what foods to eliminate but give insight into the overall health of an individual. A customized plan is prepared for each patient, once the test results are available in 2-3 weeks.

Hair analysis: Toxic elements are 200-300 times more concentrated in hair than any other part of the body, thus hair analysis is an excellent way to look for overly high levels of environmental toxins such as arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury.

Salivary hormone testing: It is non –invasive, painless and convenient -particularly when multiple samples are required. To assess hormonal imbalances, various panels are done including, female hormonal panel, male hormonal panel, 4 point salivary cortisol.

Complete Thyroid Panel: A comprehensive thyroid panel which includes TSH, free T3, free T4, reverseT3, thyroid antibodies -TPO, TRAb and Iodine plus. Most of the thyroid imbalances go undiagnosed since only TSH is done in conventional medicine which misses the bigger picture and you may be symptomatic even if you were told that your thyroid is normal.

Lab result interpreting:  Naturopathic doctors have access to conventional labs for cholesterol, blood sugar, fasting insulin, iron, vitamin B12 and many more. You may have already had these tests before, but interpretation of these test results is different and ND’S aim to get you in functional ranges rather than standard normal range.
